COMMUNITY SERVICE

I have been extremely fortunate to have learned and worked under some very exceptional mentors. The most important thing I learned was that a talent or gift was wasted if it was not passed on. My life’s passion is teaching, and I have found a way to give back what has been freely given to me. I work with community-based programs to provide curriculum and instruction to disadvantaged youth and those in recovery. My most recent project has been to develop a course in conjunction with a local CBO known as GLIDE, situated in San Francisco. The goal was to provide classes leading to an Industry recognized certification in computer technology known as A+.

At best, I hoped it would give the youth involved an opportunity to see beyond their current plight and help build their self esteem. Even the most optimistic projections were exceeded when 100% of students enrolled in my course took and passed the A+ Certification exam - to date, both times the class has been taught. This passage rate far exceeds that of students in the best tech schools across the nation. My vision is to expand the program to reach more people, and hopefully turn my efforts into a full time career.

ACADEMIC INTERESTS:

LITERATURE AND MUSIC

Music is another passion. I enjoy everything from contemporary to classical, with an emphasis on classical. Some favorite composers include Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven. In the contemporary arena, my tastes range from the Beatles up to Phil Collins. I enjoy reading and reciting poetry *Spain in the Middle Ages (Andalusian)

SPORTS

One of the keys to happy and healthy life is balance. I’m a firm believer in balancing my career, family, and hobbies with exercise. I enjoy all sports, but particularly enjoy playing or watching soccer, tennis, swimming, and boxing.
